Checkin’ Identity with Guest Dr. J Rodriguez



A “fixed mindset” refers to the mindset that things exist in a static state. It can extend to our beliefs, our personality traits, others beliefs, others personality traits, other peoples identities. We give them words, we can give them labels, we give them boxes that we can perhaps comfortably understand.

Anybody who knows me and The Shek Check, knows that is something I’ve been challenging within myself, so I can challenge it within others. Boxes are no place for people, and fixed and static places hold no place for growth or freedom.

In this episode, what is explored is our identities. While as a society we cling to these fixed identities, again because it feels safe and confined. Easy to understand. However, what is more natural is fluid personality. That battle between the two becomes a new battle for us. We don’t always realize how we fight it in our daily lives, in our relationships with others and our relationship with ourselves.

I came across Award WInning Communications Expert and Professor Dr. J Rodriguez by watching his TEDx Talk at California State University Long Beach. An inspiring jump into fluid identity, mindfulness, and finding purpose in our everyday by using all the people we come into contact within our day.

Checkin’ “What We’re Meant For”



There are so many ways to explore to bring awareness, to start conversations, and to bring understanding and compassion to Mental Health.

I think the more and more we explore these things, the more and more we find ways to bring up these conversations the better off we are. The thing is, topics of Mental Health do go beyond the conditions but of course include them.

That being said, art & film is an incredible way to connect with people and kick start these conversations. Its a conversation for all ages. Its a conversation that the 2D Animated Short “What We’re Meant For” is aiming to inspire.

I got to talk with the Producer and Director of ths 2D Animated Short that explores loss, family and mental health. Topics that explore the condition side of Mental Health but also emotional awareness and the relationship it has within us, but also within those around us.

Checkin’ Addiction & Recovery with Guest Sam Morris



“Wherever you go, there you are” – Jon Kabat-Zinn

There are many ways we can find to run away. Run away from a situation, from a relationship, from a setting but essentially from ourselves. We can literally pick ourselves up and move, we can cut people out, we can find comfort in food, find our escape in drugs or alcohol. This is actually a common human trait, and go-to. Some choices may seem healthier than others, and there are choices that become more toxic. Either way though, they do become choices we get lost in.

This is the life that Telos Lifestyle Founder Sam Morris has lived, and its the one he is bringing awareness to. As well as inspiring others to do so as well.

Sam Morris is a Personal Trainer, a Recovering Addict , and Personal Development Coach with a focus on Recovery and Sobriety. To sum someone up in a few words is difficult, but what you get with Sam Morris is someone real, authentic, a man who went from a College Athlete to an Alcoholic to a Personal Development Coach. A survivor who embraced facing himself so he could make the choice to live. Now, he is helping others find their own path with their choice.
